 Thank you to each of you who have made the Greater Things Faith Initiative a matter of prayer and commitment. Please continue to do so.
Here is an update of where we stand on the Initiative as a whole and the three projects:
On Easter we announced that more than 250 families and individuals had participated in the Initiative by turning in commitment cards. Since that time the number has grown to over 260 and the total committed is more than $4,500,000. This, along with the $1,300,000 that had been previously committed puts our total resources at $5,800,000. We continue to pray that this number will increase as new people are welcomed into the church and as all of us continue to wrestle with our own level of financial commitment.
At the May 5 congregational meeting, the congregation unanimously approved the $3,500,000 Olathe Expansion plan, a $500,000 commitment to our sister church, Christian Fellowship, and agreed to wait until later this year to receive a specific proposal related to the Leawood expansion. The elders are studying the original Leawood Campus proposal in addition to a scaled-down version and will make a proposal to the congregation later this year.
Olathe Campus Update:
The construction on the Olathe Campus project is officially underway! Dirt is being moved by the ton. By the end of July we should see a concrete slab in place that will support the new facility and by mid-August we should see a building begin to pop out of the ground. The Grand Opening is scheduled for this next Easter. Your generosity has made these exciting developments possible.
Leawood Campus Update:
Our Leawood building team, led by elder Todd Wertz, continues to work with our architect, Gould Evans, to prepare a revised plan that will meet the objectives set forward during our Greater Things Faith Initiative. We are very encouraged by the process to date, and sometime later this year (we are targeting the annual congregational meeting on September 26) we will have an opportunity to see these designs and to vote on a plan going forward.
Christian Fellowship Baptist Church:
We are thrilled to announce that we have already taken the first step in helping to see the future facility plans for CFBC come true. The elders, working closely with Pastor Stan Archie, approved a gift to completely pay off the mortgage on the current CFBC facility. This frees up significant resources that will put CFBC in a stronger position to move forward with current strategic initiatives and facility planning. Finally, I have been asked by some about how to best designate their Greater Things giving. If you write a manual check, just write “Greater Things” on the memo line. If you want to write one check to cover both your regular giving and your Greater Things giving, just detail the breakdown on the memo line. For those who give through online banking, the best way to identify your GT donation is to set up separate bill payments with a memo of “Greater Things.” Or you may find it easier to set up another payee with “Greater Things” in the name, such as “Christ Community Church – Greater Things,” and use this payee when giving for this purpose.
On your June giving statement (to be mailed in mid-July), you will see your commitment listed and any giving associated with that commitment along with an amount showing your commitment outstanding.
